In these times of frugality and the search
for the next meal deal, everyone loves a new kids’ meal, but these generally don’t promote healthy eating first. However, a new one puts nutrition front and center, as well as tying into
the latest Disney flick.
Partnering with Walt Disney Animation Studios’ for the upcoming release of the animated musical “Moana 2” Nov. 27, Ono Hawaiian BBQ created a new Ono
Keiki Meal. The kid's meal, which was “designed to offer a fresh, healthy, and well-balanced option that includes essential food groups” includes a choice of made-to-order protein, such as
chicken, beef, pork or seafood, rice, steamed vegetables, a Tree Top 100% Apple Juice Box and a Tree Top Triple Berry Apple Sauce Pouch. Per the brand, the meal is certified to meet specific
nutritional guidelines established by the Kids LiveWell Association.

To qualify for the certification, the chain needed to do the following: reduce calories from total fat, eliminate
artificial trans fats, and lower sodium content.
Seemingly every kids’ meal has to contain some sort of collectible, and this is no exception; the Ono Keiki meal is served in a
limited-time reusable lunch bag, featuring three collectible “Moana 2” designs.
The collaboration will be prompted via a TV commercial, streaming messages, digital marketing
through social media and search ads, OOH and in-store signage, Christine Jan, Ono Hawaiian BBQ director of marketing, said in an email to Marketing Daily.
"We wanted to build Ono fans
amongst the younger generation and provide a fun and health-conscious options for the kids,” wrote Jan.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ began in 2002 and has just recently surpassed 100 U.S.
locations.
