Perplexity Seeks Delay In Filing A Response To Dow Jones Lawsuit

Perplexity AI, Inc. has not yet answered the complaint filed against it by Dow Jones in federal court in October. Instead, it has asked the court for a delay until December 30.

The firm would benefit from “additional time to investigate and prepare a response to the Complaint,” its attorneys write.

They add: “Plaintiffs have agreed that we may represent to the Court on their behalf that they do not object to this request for a 45-day extension.”

The case, on file with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, was brought by “news publishers who seek redress for Perplexity’s brazen scheme to compete for readers while simultaneously freeriding on the valuable content the publishers produce,” Dow Jones states. It specifies two Dow Jones publications: The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post.

Perplexity has also received cease-and-desist letters from The New York Times and Condé Nast.
