Google And Belgium's Flemish Publishers Agree On Compensation

Google has reached a licensing agreement with Flemish media in Belgium to use their articles for its services like “News Showcase.”

The search giant had previously signed a deal with French-language media in the country, The Brussels Times reports.

Google had removed European news content from search results for 1% of its users the month before the new agreement, the Brussels Times says.

The agreement covers these northern Belgium newspapers: Het Nieuwsblad, De Standaard, Gazet van Antwerpen, Het Belang van Limburg, Het Laatste Nieuws, De Morgen, Krant van West-Vlaanderen, Knack, and De Tijd, according to the Brussels Times.

Google has been blasted in recent years for using content without compensation to publishers, the report says.
