Yum Brands Appoints Scott Mezvinsky KFC CEO

 

One Yum Brands executive is trading in tacos and Baja Blasts for an extra crispy new position.

This week the company announced it has promoted  Scott Mezvinsky to KFC division CEO, reporting to Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs beginning March 1. Mezvinsky currently serves as president of Taco Bell North America and International. He succeeds Sabir Sami, who the company said is stepping down as KFC CEO at the end of February.

Mezvinsky, tasked with the global responsibility for driving KFC brand strategy and performance, has spent more than 20 years at Yum in multiple areas including operations, strategy, finance and development.

“In his most recent role as president of Taco Bell North America and International, Scott has helped implement Taco Bell’s well-known bold and exciting ideas and ensured that global restaurant teams and customers have an industry-leading experience,” Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs said in the release. “He is a natural choice to lead KFC’s long-term global growth strategies, working in close partnership with our franchisees.”

Mezvinsky previously served as Taco Bell’s global chief strategy & financial officer, where he headed finance, development and strategy functions. Other roles included general manager of KFC Iberia, as well as working as chief development officer and vice president, development and operations for  KFC Latin America and Caribbean markets.

Yum is yet to announce who will assume Mezvinsky’s role at Taco Bell.

In other KFC news, the NFL announced today that the organization opened a Pittsburgh Steelers-themed KFC in Mexico, as part of its global markets program, which aims to build awareness and cultivate fan bases for the NFL around the world. Per the brand, Mexico is home to one of the largest communities of Steelers’ fans outside the U.S. The NFL has also opened themed KFC locations in Mexico for fans of the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
