Microsoft Tuesday announced that its Windows Live Mail beta, previously restricted, will now be open to the general public, and will now incorporate features including an optional interface similar to
MSN Hotmail's and the ability to customize the interface with new color themes. Additionally, Microsoft is releasing a beta version of Windows Live Desktop Mail, a downloadable mail client, similar to
Outlook, which will allow users to download their Web mail from multiple accounts and save it to their hard drive. The beta product will be available as a free download.
