The Financial Times is expanding its coverage of trade and economics under the Trump administration and to that end has appointed Claire Jones as US economics editor, based in Washington DC.

In addition, Aime Williams has been named US trade and climate correspondent to cover the impact of the Trump administration’s trade and climate policies in and the impact of tariffs on trading partners. Williams, who joined the FT in London in 2016, has been serving as US climate correspondent.

In another staff promotion, Amanda Chu has been appointed as US economics correspondent, based in New York. Chu will report on major economic data releases and institutions and write data-driven stories on how investment patterns react to shifts in politics, policy and global markets.

Chu joined FT in 2021, and previously worked as US energy reporter and a lead writer for the Energy Source newsletter.

“The Trump administration’s policies continue to reverberate across markets and industries. From tariffs and tax cuts to the evolving trade-climate nexus, these decisions will have far-reaching implications,” says Brooke Masters, US managing editor. Under Claire’s leadership, our expanded team will provide FT readers with authoritative, in-depth reporting on this increasingly complex economic landscape.”
