The Carthaginan, a weekly newspaper serving the Carthage, Mississippi area, has been acquired by Street and Curb Publishing, of Tennessee, ending 150 years of local ownership, The Neshoba Democrat reports.
The terms were not disclosed.
Waid Prather will remain as editor and publisher for a few months,
the Democrat adds.
The Carthaginian was founded in 1872.
Prather says a change was necessary. “The newspaper industry has suffered terribly in recent years from new media competition and other factors,” he notes, according to the Democrat.
Street and Curb hosts a radio program featuring “commonsense conservative thinking,” the report continues. The company is led by Stephen Carvelli, a real estate broker and
entrepreneur based in Florida.
