Trust in media has been growing within an unexpected group: Republicans, according to a new report from Pew Research Center.
Of those surveyed, 53% of Republicans trust at least some of the information coming from national news organizations, up from 40% last year.
Indeed, trust had been declining among this cohort. But that apparently has improved with Trump’s reassuming the presidency.
Moreover, Republicans are also now more likely to say they trust local news outlets — (75% vs. 66% in 2024) and social media sites (45% compared to 37% last year).
Granted, Republicans continue to be less likely than Democrats to trust input from national news organizations: 81% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents express such trust.

And it depends on which wing of the party the Republicans belong to — 49% of conservatives feel some trust, as do 61% of moderate or liberal GOPers.
But belief in general is rising among most age groups, Pew continues: 74% of Americans aged 6%+ now have faith in national news, compared to 61% in 2024. This is also reflected among those in the 50-64 cohort (66%, a 9% increase over 2024 and people under age 30 — 60%, as opposed to 56% last year.
Pew Research Center surveyed 9,482 panelists from March 10-16, 2025.
