States Newsroom, a nonprofit news network, is moving into audio and has named Mallory Cheng as national podcast producer, a new title.
Cheng will play a leading role in developing a national weekly podcast focused on political news. It should debut by this fall.
Prior to this, Cheng served as a host and podcast producer at Wisconsin Public Radio, helping to launch WPR’s daily news podcast.
“Now that we’re distributing news from all the states and D.C., it’s a natural step to expand into audio — through podcasts and radio,” says Chris Fitzsimon, publisher, States Newsroom. “Several of our outlets are producing terrific local podcasts, and with Mallory’s expertise we’re excited to develop a new way to bring our news from the states to a national audience.”
In other news, States Newsroom has announced these recent appointments:
- Julia Shumway as editor-in-chief of the Oregon Capital
Chronicle.
- Jon King as editor in chief of the Michigan Advance.
- Jill Nolin as editor in chief of the Georgia Recorder, effective June 2.
The Shumway and King appointments took effect in March.
