Days after a reported newsroom layoff, The Portland Tribune announced it is killing its print edition.
Two sister papers in Oregon are also eliminating print. And another related paper, The (Gresham) Outlook, will reduce its print frequency from twice to once per week, Oregon.com reports.
“We know the media landscape will never be unchanging for any length of time,” said John Carr, publisher of parent Carpenter’s papers in Oregon and North Carolina, according to Oregon.com. “We are committed to continuously evolving to meet readers wherever they seek news and information.”
Last week, the Tribune laid off several staff journalists, leaving the newsroom with a couple of reporters and no editor, Oregon.com continues.
Carpenter, which is based in Mississippi, has continued on an acquisition track, recently purchasing the assets of Salem Publishing Company, a family-owned company based in Missouri.
