Confessions from Peter Piper Pizza's CMO: Local Communities, Branding, and Using AI as a Co-Pilot

Do you prefer brand awareness or performance? What is your preferred marketing channel? In this series, we get to know past Insider Summit attendees and ask about their preferences.

Genaro Perez, Chief Marketing Officer, Peter Piper Pizza:

  • Local Community Outreach or National Campaigns: Local all the way. Our restaurants are woven into the fabric of the neighborhoods we serve. There’s nothing better than rolling up our sleeves to sponsor a school event, support a local cause, or host a community celebration. That’s where the real magic happens—where loyalty is built one slice, one handshake, and one shared laugh at a time.

  • Birthday Parties or Everyday Visits: Birthday parties! Celebrations are in Peter Piper Pizza’s DNA. From games to pizza and laughter, we love being part of those once-a-year moments that families remember forever. And here’s the bonus—once guests celebrate with us, they often return for those everyday dinners and after-little-league hangouts that keep the connection alive all year.

  • Performance or Brand: Brand. Performance is critical, but brand is the foundation that makes performance sustainable. When people believe in who you are, what you stand for, and the experiences you deliver, every sales metric follows naturally.

  • Human Touch or AI: Human touch—with AI as our co-pilot. AI helps us work smarter by taking repetitive tasks off our teams’ plates, improving order accuracy, and tailoring offers to each guest’s preferences. But it can’t replace the warmth of a smile, the memory of a favorite order, or the feeling of being part of the Peter Piper family. That human connection is—and always will be—our heart.

  • Fast Pivots or Long-Term Planning: Fast pivots. Just like a busy kitchen on a Friday night, we adapt quickly to guest needs and market trends. This agility keeps us relevant and responsive, while our long-term vision ensures every quick move builds toward bigger brand goals.

  • Seasonal Promotions or Evergreen Offers: Both. Seasonal promotions create excitement, urgency, and fresh reasons to visit right now. Evergreen favorites provide the comfort and familiarity of those go-to menu items guests count on every time. Together, they keep our menu balanced, relevant, and irresistible.

  • Classic Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza: Neither! My personal favorite is our Ham, Pineapple, and Jalapeño pizza. Yes—I’m one of those people. Sweet, savory, and a little spicy… just like life at Peter Piper Pizza.
