The son of the late newspaper columnist Jimmy Breslin has denounced an artificial intelligence writing coach that promises to teach the user to write in Breslin’s style.
The
nonprofit Journalistic Learning Initiative’s AI Tool is called Jimmy.
Breslin won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1986, and was the author of several best-selling novels,
including The Gang that Couldn’t Shoot Straight, World Without End, Amen and Forsaking All Others.
Over the course of a long career, he wrote
regular columns for New York Herald Tribune, New York Post, New York Daily News and Newsday.
“He never said they could take my words and make
it into some sophomoric, imbecilic writing, some second-rate nonsense, Breslin’s son Kevin Breslin told the New York Post. “When it came to the written word, he was as precise
as can be.”
The bot costs $2.99 per month.
