McClatchy has made deep cuts at newspapers it owns nationwide, Associated Press reports. More than 90 union journalists at 17 publications—30% of all workers
belonging ti the NewsGuildCWA—have been laid off. The affected publications include news outlets include, The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, The Kansas City Star, The
Charlotte Observer and Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We are waist-deep in the quicksand and we are still sinking,” said Carol Marbin Miller, deputy investigations
editor of The Miami Herald.
