IHG Flips The Script On 'Chicken Shop Date' Host In New Campaign

IHG Hotels & Resorts’ turns the tables on a favorite media host by hosting her in a new ad campaign.

British celebrity interviewer Amelia Dimoldenberg – best known for her awkward deadpan humor in her “Chicken Shop Date” YouTube, which boasts nearly 3.5 million subscribers – stars in the hotelier’s “When the Host Needs Hosting” social effort.

The campaign, inspired by a survey conducted by the brand in collaboration with Talker, found two-thirds (67%) of Americans “are often or always the person responsible for caring for others and organizing plans.”

The same percentage also agree that being in charge makes the vacation feel more “like work.”

The spot (see above) shows Dimoldenberg checking into various IHG properties and taking full advantage of being hosted herself by indulging in the properties many amenities.

“People know me as a host. Personally, I think I'm an even better guest,” she says as she checks into a “perfect” suite at an Intercontinental.

She relaxes in the lobby with a cocktail, receives a “gorgeous” dessert and inquires at the concierge on where to get her hair blown out.

“And where should I go if I'm having an existential crisis because my trip is about to end?” she asks as the concierge replies she can help her book her next tip at any of IHG’s 21 brands and 7,000 properties.

“We believe travel is at its best when guests can leave the details behind and simply enjoy being looked after,” said Connor Smith, senior vice president, global brands, luxury, lifestyle, master brand and global creative director for IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“Great hosting is about anticipating needs and making people feel genuinely welcome, qualities Amelia has become known for. This campaign turns the tables, giving her the opportunity to experience the thoughtful hospitality our teams deliver every day.”

The “When the Host Needs Hosting” campaign will continue to roll out via the brand’s socials with additional “notable” hosts from Australia, Mexico and Europe, among other markets.
