Bolt Tweaks NBC With 'Hazy Monday'

In an attempt to needle NBC for its efforts to remove the "Saturday Night Live" sketch "Lazy Sunday" from unauthorized Web sites, Bolt Media has posted a spoof of the skit on its Web site, and invited other Bolt users to post their own satirical takes on the routine.

The Bolt Media skit, "Hazy Monday," created by Luke McCormick and Geoff Gresh, mirrors the lyrics of "Lazy Sunday," and focuses on the duo's efforts to obtain a pirated copy of the movie "V for Vendetta." The original "Saturday Night Live" skit focused on going to a theater to see "The Chronicles of Narnia."

The rap touches peripherally on the copyright issues that NBC is concerned with: "Let's just download V for Vendetta. Which torrent client do you like better?" Bolt was one of the Web sites served with a cease and desist letter by NBC stemming from the original "Lazy Sunday" spot.

Bolt posted the video to kick off its "Hazy Monday Challenge," which invites other Bolt users to create spoofs of "Saturday Night Live" and other NBC shows: "Join the "Hazy Monday" revolution and author your own viral media: Re-enact a classic SNL skit; Make a 'Triumph' sock puppet and hump something; Photoshop yourself with Jay Leno's chin," writes McCormick on his own Bolt Media profile page.

"If NBC wants to pull down our videos, we're just going to have to make our own," McCormick wrote.

Bolt CEO Aaron Cohen said that about 35,000 people had streamed the "Hazy Monday" short by Friday afternoon. The rap went up on McCormick's Bolt page on Thursday, and Bolt Media put a link to it on the front page of the site.

NBC did not respond to requests for comment.
