Internet measurement company Hitwise is officially launching a new type of analytics service that tracks the behavior of Web users who visit competitors' sites. The service was rolled out on a test
basis over the last several months, mainly with sites in the travel, retail, and finance sectors. With the service, an online e-tailer can analyze how visitors use sites of other e-tailers in the same
industry, subsections visited, and purchases. Hitwise also can combine that information with clickstream data to figure out which search keywords brought users to specific portions of Web sites.
