Snake, Rattle, and Roll

"A routine flight. A creative assassin. Sam F*cking Jackson." So opens one of the many fan-made previews for New Line Cinema's new summer offering, "Snakes on a Plane." That's right: Even months before its release, the film already had fans.

Before heavy promotion even began, "Snakes on a Plane" had acquired followers, thanks to the campy premise and Jackson's bad-mofo cred. When filmmakers tried to change the title to "Pacific Air Flight 121," an Internet lynch mob swiftly hissed them away.

New Line is glad to ride shotgun with "Snakes" mania. The official Web site consists of a small media section and a "Fan Site of the Week" feature, with sites like SnakesOnABlog, a MySpace page, a link to 128 fan-posted "Snakes On A Plane" videos on YouTube, and a McSweeney's article mulling possible endings to the movie, including, "After single-handedly killing all snakes on board and landing the plane, Jackson steps onto the tarmac and removes his trench coat only to reveal that he is, in fact, made entirely out of snakes."
