Correction: Yahoo Keeping Local, General Search Separate

  • July 25, 2006
The article "Major Search Engines Split On Local Search" that appeared in Friday's OnlineMediaDaily misquoted Ron Belanger, senior director of channel strategy and development for Yahoo Search Marketing. Belanger did not say: "Karen [Crow] and the others will try to outdo each other in software and programming, but we're folding local advertisers with the rest of our search." He actually said: "Karen [Crow] and the others will try to outdo each other in software and programming, but I think the real issue is outreach."

In addition, Yahoo is not planning to consolidate its local search with the core search functions. Rather, it is offering local marketers geo-targeting options as part of its new search platform, due for release at the end of the year. This feature will enable advertisers to select local geo-targeting options within Yahoo's main bidding marketplace.
