A valuable analysis of the recently recently released Census Bureau statistics from the American Community Survey (ACS) 2005, by Kang & Lee Advertising, shows that the three fastest growing Asian populations since 2000 are, in rank order, Asian Indians, Vietnamese, and Filipinos.
Saul Gitlin, Executive Vice President, Strategic Services, Kang & Lee Advertising, said "The American Community Survey ...is an important 'bible' for companies active in the Asian American market in that it allows us to fine-tune our understanding of key market demographics... as well as to uncover Asian population trends that may accelerate in the future, and which will have implications for how marketers plan and execute their Asian multicultural programs."
Asian highlights from ACS 2005, according to the analysis include:
37 states experienced Asian population growth rates in excess of 20% since 2000. The states with the top-5 Asian population growth rates include:
Of these, Nevada and Arizona each have Asian populations in excess of 100,000 respectively. Florida is now projected to contain 371,000 Asians.
California, New York, and Texas remain the top ranked states for Asians. However, New Jersey, with a 29% Asian population growth rate since 2000, has already eclipsed Hawaii to become the fourth largest Asian state.
The analysis shows that the cities with the top-5 Asian population growth rates include:
