Correction: 'Harvard Student Reports' (May 18)

  • May 22, 2004
In the May 18th story "Harvard Student's Reports Cast Pall Over WhenU Practices," MediaDailyNews incorrectly reported that Ben Edelman, the author of the report "Methods and Effects of Spyware," stated that Claria Corp. violates its own privacy policy. Edelman's March 2004 report addressed the issue of adware companies and the transmission of personal information to their servers. The report suggested that both WhenU and the Claria Corp. should be reclassified as spyware; Edelman further claimed that WhenU violates its own privacy policy, which states that "As the user surfs the Internet, URLS visited by the user (i.e. the user's 'clickstream data') are NOT transmitted to WhenU.com or any third party server." MediaDailyNews regrets the error.
