Volkswagen AG yesterday announced Chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder will resign by year's end. Although reasons were not given, the company said that both Pischetsrieder and Volkswagen's Supervisory
Board agreed on the move.
Martin Winterkorn, chairman of VW sibling Audi, is in line to replace him upon a confirmation vote by the company board. Winterkorn's reputation for
exacting standards and focus on quality have helped lift Audi from a generic European brand with a reputation for technical glitches to a top-end luxury marque whose sales have tripled since the
mid-1990's.
