LinkedIn Vet Launches Click-to-Call App

Startup click-to-call company Jaxtr, headed by business networking site LinkedIn co-founder Konstantin Guericke, today will unveil a new application designed for use on social networking sites.

The beta service allows registered users to include a link on profiles on social networking sites. When users click that link, they will be connected via mobile phone to the member who created the profile. The link does not reveal phone numbers, enabling users to receive calls while keeping their privacy.

Guericke, who left his position as vice president of marketing at LinkedIn to become CEO at Jaxtr, said the service will allow users to make their profiles more interactive. "What social networks and blogs are really about is helping people make new connections," he said. "What this allows you to do is bring your phone into the mix."

The service is free for both users, aside from the regular mobile phone charges. The company is considering using advertising to monetize the service, but currently gets a share of revenue from the telecommunications companies when users connect.

Guericke will remain with LinkedIn in an advisory capacity, said a spokeswoman for the company.
