Lycos is adding dozens of episodes of "City Sessions"--recording session videos spotlighting up-and-coming music acts--to Lycos Cinema, its virtual screening room where viewers can chat online
watching films and other shows.
The 30-minute "City Sessions" videos are produced by a subsidiary of World Digital Media Group, a music and digital content company formed by
RadioShack, EchoStar Communications, Sirius Satellite Radio and CC Entertainment. Like the independent and offbeat films offered on Lycos Cinema, "City Sessions" showcases indie bands and artists
intended to appeal to Lycos' user base of teens and young adults.
Alice Peacock, Tyrone Wells, Keaton Simons and Emiko are among music acts featured in the series. By March, Lycos Cinema viewers
will be also able to participate in moderated chat sessions with selected artists on a weekly basis while watching their "City Sessions" episodes. As with other Lycos Cinema videos, the City Sessions
episodes will carry pre- and post-roll ads, typically lasting less than 15 seconds.
A Lycos spokesperson said that the company has been pleased with the response to Lycos Cinema since its
November launch, especially in the 74 minutes spent on the section per user session. The most requested movies include "Night of the Living Dead," "Slingblade," and "To Kill a Mockumentary."
