Dish To Run Current TV

While a negotiating impasse has kept Court TV off Dish Network for a month, the satellite operator has a deal to carry fledgling Current TV. The agreement boosts the 17-month-old network, which is chaired by Al Gore, to 38 million subscribers overall.

Current--which targets 18- to-34-year-olds and relies partly on user-generated content, and even runs UGC ads--will be part of a Dish programming tier that reaches approximately 8 million subscribers.

Current now has carriage deals with Dish, fellow DBS operator DirecTV and cable operators Comcast and Time Warner.

Separately, Dish and Turner Broadcasting continue to tussle over restoring Court TV to Dish, which took it off the air Jan. 1 after the two failed to agree on carriage terms.

Court TV, operated by Turner since it took control of the network last year, was believed to be in 11 million Dish homes.
