Gillette Hitting Home Runs For Prostate Cancer Research

  • June 6, 2007
Father's Day is around the corner, and in the baseball world that can mean only one thing: The beginning of the Gillette-sponsored Home Run Derby, designed to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The Derby, now in its 10th year, starts today and runs through Father's Day. Spokesman is Hall-of-fame shortstop Ozzie Smith. Fans can go to gillettepcc.org and make a pledge for home runs hit by a select number of MLB players.

Last year, 153 home runs were hit during 60 games, raising nearly $2.5 million for prostate cancer research in just 11 days. It all culminates on June 17, and just to make sure everyone gets the prostate cancer awareness message, Major League players, managers, coaches and even umpires will wear blue wristbands, blue headbands, blue biceps bands, blue ribbon temporary tattoos and blue eye glare for Father's Day games.
