The European Union Commission Wednesday approved Lagardere Groupe's planned takeover of Vivendi Universal's publishing division, one of the few remaining assets of the Paris-based media conglomerate.
Lagardere said it would divest nearly 60 percent of the Vivendi publications in order to comply with the commission's media ownership guidelines.
