Brownridge, Quadrangle Buy Three Dennis Titles

In partnership with Kent Brownridge, former senior vice president of Wenner Media, Quadrangle Capital Partners has purchased Maxim, Blender, and Stuff from Dennis Publishing for about $240 million, the companies are set to announce this week. The sale of the young men's titles to a private equity group is the latest deal in a year which has seen numerous properties changing hands in the magazine business, with many going to private equity firms.

Founder Felix Dennis put the titles up for sale in spring 2006, but few details were available about possible buyers until recently. Dennis--who earlier said the titles were always for sale at the right price--is keeping The Week, a slim digest presenting a condensed snapshot of international news.

Brownridge's plans for the titles aren't yet known, but he will likely continue the program of rolling out new branded events and experiential marketing already underway at the titles. Maxim is opening 15 "Maxim Prime" steakhouses in partnership with restaurant-manager Jeffrey Chodorow, and is also planning to open a giant Maxim-branded casino on the Las Vegas strip. Meanwhile, in a strategic move up-market, Stuff has opened Stuff VIP Travel, a concierge service for trip-planning, and also throws a party at the Kentucky Derby.
