Cox Communications said Wednesday it had deployed its new digital video recorder service for the first time in the Gainesville, Fla., market. In Gainesville, DVR service is $9.95 a month in addition
to the charges for digital cable. The integrated DVR set-top box is leased for the same price as the standard digital set-top box. Pricing may vary in other Cox markets as the deployment continues.
Lynne Elander, VP of video product development, said the DVR service changes the way customers view television. “DVR service marks the next logical step in Cox’s ongoing efforts to bring customers the
most compelling home entertainment programming, powered by technology that increases their control and convenience in viewing,” she said. Cox said its DVR service is simpler to use than standalone DVR
products that involve separate program guides and a connection to a telephone line.
