Hipster mobile service Helio is teaming up with local search service Buzzd to provide updated listings of bars, restaurants and clubs to subscribers.
In addition to supplying
listings from entertainment guides such as Time Out, Citysearch and Flavorpill, the service also lets users post reviews of venues while they're out and about.
Buzzd was founded by former
executives of ipsh!, the mobile marketing firm acquired by Omnicom Group in 2005. The startup aims to carve a niche in mobile search by combining mobile blogging, GPS, and local entertainment in one
service.
Helio needs all the help it can get. A joint venture of EarthLink and South Korean wireless operator SK Telecom, the youth-oriented mobile service has struggled to build a large
subscriber base and stay in business despite an initial investment of $440 million.
