Commentary

Hulu is the new iTunes, but for TV!

I'm excited...I've talked about in the past how I really like watching my favorite television shows online. I think it's very convenient (especially for those of us who do not have a DVR) and the commercials are far from obnoxious.

I had a friend of mine tell me about hulu.com and I thought it was really interesting, but it wasn't until I read an article on the website that reminded me to check it out. Well, needless to say, I love it!

Not only does it have both old and current tv shows, hulu.com also has a small selection of movies. And like the networks, who are jumping on the online-tv bandwagon, the commercials are short and there are very few of them.

And from an advertising perspective, I am more engaged and more prone to pay attention to the web advertisements than the commercials shown on television. Why? Because I know exactly how long it's going to be before the show comes back on. On tv, it's maybe 6 or 7 commercials before the program comes back on...who knows. When I'm watching a program online I have that time frame available to me and that span of time (which is 20-30 seconds) is so small that it's not even worth getting up and walking away from my computer. I just sit there until the ad is done therefore I am almost forced to be engaged by the advertisement and I think that's why it works.

I'm just so happy that I can watch my favorite episodes of my favorite shows whenever I want and I don't have to pay a dime...how cool is that?!
