Nielsen Co. Reports 11% Gain, Consumer/Media Offset Business Media Losses

Nielsen Co., the parent of Nielsen Media Research, ACNielsen, and a variety of trade publications and conferences, Monday reported third quarter 2007 revenues of $1.188 billion, an 11% increase over the third quarter of 2006. Revenues for the first nine months of 2007 rose 11% over the pro forma revenues for the same period in 2006 to $3.429 billion.

Nielsen's consumer services, which include consumer research operations such as ACNielsen, were the strongest performers during the period. Revenues for Nielsen's consumer services rose 16% to $690 million for the third quarter of 2007. Revenues for Nielsen's media operations, which include Nielsen Media Research, rose 11% to $372 million. Nielsen's business media unit, which includes trade magazines such as Adweek, Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, fell 7% to $128 million.
