Mobile music revenue for Warner Music Group fell to $49.2 million in the second quarter from $56.4 million in the prior quarter. Overall, the major label reported a second-quarter loss of $37 million
on revenue of $800 million, compared to a $27 million loss on sales of $784 million in the year-earlier period.
Warner's quarterly digital revenue of $164 million was up 16% from
the first quarter and 48% from a year ago. Of digital sales, 70% come from the Internet and 30% from mobile. The mobile business softened on declining ringtone sales in the U.S. and flat results
abroad.
The company said newer mobile products, such as ringback tones and full-track downloads, among others, remain too small to have a meaningful impact on sales.
