Whitepages.com is acquiring Snapvine, with the aim of integrating the Seattle-based company's voice applications to the online directory with contact information for 180 million adults. In addition to
adopting Snapvine's current voice services, WhitePages.com plans to roll out new initiatives such as a free, private voice mail box as well as email and SMS messaging services. Snapvine recently
released an API (application programming interface), which allows developers to add the company's voice and sharing features in their own applications. Through the acquisition, Snapvine CEO Joe
Heitzeberg will become the vice president of a new division, Communication Product Development, reporting directly to Alex Algard, founder and CEO of Whitepages.com. --Mark Walsh
