LVMH, the luxury goods company, says that a commercial court in Paris has upheld its claim against eBay, ordering the online retailer to pay the equivalent of $63 million to Vuitton for counterfeit
leather goods, and LVMH's Christian Dior unit for unlawful sales of fragrances.
The court ruled that eBay was guilty of gross misconduct and negligence by not preventing the sale
of the counterfeit goods on its site. It also ordered eBay to report the verdict on both its French and English sites. "This verdict represents an important step in the protection of brands and
designs against parasitic practices," the company says in its release. Ebay will reportedly appeal the ruling.
