The lawsuit, filed in Rome, alleges that as of June 10, YouTube included at least 4,643 video clips of Mediaset-owned material after being posted "without obtaining rights." Those clips totaled 325 hours of broadcasts from Mediaset's three private television stations, the Italian company said. The requested damages are only an initial figure, and do not take into account losses from its inability to sell advertising to accompany the clips, reports The AP. YouTube maintains that it obeys the law by removing any copyrighted content after being notified of a violation by the copyright owner. "There is no need for legal action and all the associated costs," the company said in a statement.--Tanya Irwin
