As Facebook prepares to complete the rollout of its new site this week, opposition mounts. A Facebook group called "Petition Against the 'New Facebook,'" has swelled to more than 400,000, according to
the blog Inside Facebook.
Most complaints about the new version unveiled in July have to do with greater difficulty navigating the site, according to the blog. One user wrote: "this
new facebook sucks. seriously. it's too hard to maneuver, very very ugly, takes up way too much space on the screen, and it slows computers down. you don't need to fix what wasn't broken, fb."
The aim of the redesign was just the opposite: To make the site and profile pages less cluttered and easier to use. An analysis by Hitwise last week showed that 60% of Facebook users had so far
migrated to the latest version, suggesting most have gradually adapted to the new site.
Inside Facebook pointed out that 750,000 members joined a group against the social network's News Feed
when it was launched two years ago. Since then it's become a central feature of the site and helped Facebook grow from 15 million to 100 million active users.--Mark Walsh
