A story in the Sept. 9 issue incorrectly stated that the language Esperanto was developed in the early 20th century and is "experimental." Esperanto was developed in the late 19th century as a
universal, neutral international language, according to Esperanto.net. At least one survey, by one Professor Sidney S. Culbert of the University of Washington, Seattle, suggests there are some two
million proficient speakers of the language.
