Who among us hasn't sent a regrettable e-mail message after having one too many, whether confessing our love for a co-worker or telling the boss what we really think of her? What if there were a way
to prevent them from ever going out? Gmail, that most helpful and occasionally intrusive ("You really want to send that e-mail without a subject line!?") of e-mail providers, is supposedly working on
a solution--if you believe its official blog.
A post by a Gmail engineer Monday says the company is working on a feature called Mail Goggles that would make users answer a series of simple
math questions before sending any e-mail messages. That way it prevents mail from being sent when the user is in an altered state of mind. By default the feature would activate late nights and
weekends, though users could set it to activate whenever they want.
Interesting idea, but is it real? Google has been known to use its blog to announce joke features before, such as Google
Paper, which supposedly printed your e-mails on paper and delivered them to your home. But such pranks usually occur on April Fools Day. Perhaps someone at Google got drunk and posted this one too
early.
