Star-Ledger, the New Jersey state newspaper based in Newark, has staved off closure. The last of the three unions agreed to a new contract late Tuesday; at the same time, the newspaper got
the necessary number of buyouts. The newspaper, the nation's 15th-largest, will remain with Advance Publications.
