Huffington Post Starts World Affairs Section

  • December 5, 2008
Fresh off securing $25 million in venture capital, the Huffington Post has launched a new section focused on world affairs. It features analysis from U.S. foreign policy experts and bloggers located around the world. Contributors include Queen Noor of Jordan, John Kerry, senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Joseph Nye, the Harvard professor who coined the term "soft power."

The World section also provides content from editorial partners including GlobalPost.com, with correspondents in more than 50 countries. The new offering reflects The Huffington Post's plans to expand coverage with more investigative reporting, video, citizen journalism projects and local editions.

The Huffington Post and other political news sites enjoyed strong traffic gains leading up to the election. Diversifying coverage may help them retain audiences. For the week ending Nov. 16, unique visitors to HuffingtonPost.com had already fallen to 1.3 million from 1.9 million the prior week.--Mark Walsh
