Warren Named NYTimes.com GM

  • December 8, 2008
The New York Times Co. has named Denise Warren, senior vice president and chief advertising officer of its media group, as general manager of NYTimes.com. The new role will be in addition to her current responsibilities. She fills the post vacated by Vivian Schiller, who left to become CEO of NPR (National Public Radio).

Warren will manage all business operations of NYTimes.com and report to Martin A. Nisenholtz, senior vice president for digital operations for The New York Times Company. As of October, The Times ranked as the 12th-biggest Web property (and biggest newspaper online), with 49.3 million unique visitors.

Warren assumes her new role as the online side is under more pressure than ever to help offset decline ad sales on The Times' print side. Internet ad revenues in the third quarter increased 6.7% to $85.1 million, accounting for 12.4% of overall sales. But the digital gains were not enough to compensate for an overall 14.4% ad revenue drop during the quarter.--Mark Walsh
