Boston.com Launches 'Hyper-Local' Web Effort

  • December 12, 2008
Boston.com on Thursday announced the launch of a community Web site for the town of Newton, Mass., which is part of a strategy to create a network of "hyper-local" sites for towns throughout greater Boston.

The new community sites will attempt to provide access to comprehensive news, information, local resources and local Web sites for individual towns, providing residents with a digital front door to their town.

Boston.com/Newton presents information from multiple media and information sources, so residents can scan all relevant links about their town, and click to the media source or Web site for the whole story.

The site also houses comprehensive local event listings, as well as community, school, recreation, civic and local business information. Discussion boards and blogs will also be an important feature of the Newton site and all future Boston.com community sites.--Gavin O'Malley

Not really as interactive as I would expect or as it should be and they don't seem to be doing any reverse publishing. I think the Chicago Tribune's model is bound to have more traction (www.triblocal.com). Seems too little too late. One town? Do they believe in this or not?
