Twitbacks.com, which allows people to create personalized backgrounds for their Twitter pages, is offering a new feature that allows Twitter users to promote their profiles across the Web.

Through the service, Twitbacks posts basic user information on Web directories, feeds and search engines that can be linked back to a user's Twitter profile. GoogleBase, Vast, Oodle and Local.com are among the online services where profile information is distributed.

The promotional service is free for now, but eventually the company plans to charge for it. Twitbacks, developed by Go Smart Solutions, is not affiliated with Twitter. The Twitter backgrounds it introduced in November include a user's logo or photo, a short bio and links to their social networks, blogs and Web sites.--Mark Walsh
