    Call it The Cold War 2.0. In a highly unusual move, the FBI is openly warning the Massachusetts tech community to be wary of Russian venture capitalists who may in fact be working on behalf of the Russian government to gain access to sensitive and emerging American technology. The warning extends not only to private businesses, but also to research centers and universities, especially those with ties to the U.S. defense industry.   • MassChallenge Receives Record Number Of Applications
    And they're off! MassChallenge, the tech community's answer to the Boston Marathon, said that it has received a record number of applications from aspiring tech titans around the world hoping to gain admittance into the incubator's 2014 program. The world's largest tech incubator said 1,600 start-ups applied this year, up 35% from last year's pool of 1,200.
  • Entercom Boston Digital Chief Promoted To Head Of Integrated Media Strategies
    Embattled radio group Entercom Boston is ramping its digital efforts. Entercom Boston, which operates WEEI, WAAF and WRKO, said that it has promoted its director of digital operations, Carlson Mozdiez, to the newly created position of director, integrated media strategies. In his new position, Mozdiez will be responsible for all external brand messaging, including events, promotions, ads, web sites, social media, and video.

    Just in time for Friday's Opening Day, the Boston Red Sox have unveiled a new version of their mobile app At the Ballpark aimed at further enhancing The Fenway Park Experience. According to the Boston Globe, the new and improved app will use iBeacon technology to beam offers and deals to iPhone users seated inside Fenway while they're watching the game. The app will allow the team to tie offers to what's happening on the field, such alerting fans to deals on merchandise bearing the name of a player having a standout day.

    With the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings fast approaching, event sponsor AT&T is planning to honor the spirit of the race and its participants with a special "digital tribute" and fundraising drive. As part of the effort, the telecom giant is asking Marathon fans and participants to submit videos showing their passion for the City of Boston and its beloved Marathon. AT&T will then curate the videos into a digital mosaic that will be shown at the Athlete's Village on Marathon Day, April 21st.

    WCVB-TV Channel 5 has won the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation's "Service to the Community" Award for its efforts in assisting the Boston community in the wake of last year's horrific Boston Marathon bombings. The award is given for exemplary service by a broadcaster to the community. WCVB was given the award for not only its breaking news coverage but also its efforts to support individuals and local businesses impacted by the tragedy.
