  • Backbone Media, a Massachusetts-based company that specializes in website promotion, search engine optimization, and email services, has announced the appointment of GREG JARBOE as VP and Chief Marketing Officer. Jarboe was previously VP of Marketing for WebCT and held various positions at Ziff-Davis and Lotus Development Corp., where he launched Lotus Notes.

  • Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. today announced that DEBORAH MAIOCCO has been named National Sales Manager of Comcast MarketLink Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York, the company's advertising interconnect in central Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Comcast, Maiocco worked as VP of Advertising Sales for CNX Media in Los Angeles.

  • LOU SCHULTZ, chairman and CEO of Initiative Media Worldwide, was reportedly asked to step down after two years at the helm of the Interpublic Group of Cos. global media network.

  • JURIE PIETERSE, former Vice President of Internet Strategy Practice at Foote Cone & Belding, has joined ING Direct as Director of Online Channels.

  • MONICA SEARES OLSEN has been hired as media director TroneAtlanta. Olsen joins TroneAtlanta from Tellme Networks, Inc., of Mountain View.

  • MARIO RUSSO has been promoted from Account Executive to Sales Manager of Christal Radio in Philadelphia. Also at Christal Radio, NICHOLE PIKUR has been promoted from Account Executive to Senior Account Executive.

  • SOPHIA CORONA has been named to the post of chief financial officer at Bigfoot Interactive. Corona's financial and operational experience includes senior level posts at companies such as Ian Schrager Hotels, Kamsky Associates, Prism Communications Services, and Visual Radio.

  • DEB PEABODY MOON has been named to the newly created position of Lead Internet Ad Trafficker at Miles Media Group in Orlando, Florida.

  • Rainbow Advertising Sales Corporation has named television advertising industry veteran ARLENE MANOS to the post of President of Rainbow National Network Advertising Sales. Most recently, Manos was Senior Vice President for National Advertising Sales, A&E Television Networks.

  • Three months after Internet audience measurement firm NetRatings agreed to buy rival Jupiter Media Metrix Inc., NetRatings Inc. co-founder and top executive TIM MEADOWS has decided to leave the company, following in the footsteps of NetRatings CEO and co-founder DAVE TOTH, whose departure was announced in October. eRatings.com President BILL PULVER is said to assume the role of chief executive and president. Also at NetRatings, GEORGE DURNEY will become senior VP of sales. He was previously responsible for sales for NetRatings Eastern region. MANISH BHATIA will become senior vice president of product marketing and business development. Previously, he was senior vice president of interactive services for Nielsen Media Research. SEAN KALDOR, formerly NetRatings' chief analyst, will become VP of analytics and corporate marketing. BARBARA JARZAB has been named VP and chief of measurement science. She was previously the company's VP of research.

  • IAN CAIRNS has been named President of Broadband Interactive Group (BIG). An original shareholder, Cairns has held a number of positions with BIG as VP of Events and Director of International Television Distribution.

  • After two years of serving as director of business development at Young & Rubicam in New York, PAT DOYLE has left the agency.

  • HOLLY PAVLIKA is joining Grey Direct New York as Executive VP, Executive Creative Director. Pavlika most recently served as President and Executive Creative Director at Pavlika Chinnici in New York.

  • JOE GERMSHEID has recently been hired by Zentropy Partners as an Associate Media Director. He was last at Martin Williams Advertising, Minneapolis, where he was the Online Media Manager and led all of MW's client's online initiatives.

  • MICHAEL POLLOCK has been named to head Grain, Charlex’s interactive production division. Pollock served as head of production at JWT New York, executive producer at post-production house Version 2, and also was VP and creative director at Digitas.

  • BARRY PINCUS has been named the new manager of brand development at Dennis Publishing, Inc. Pincus comes to Dennis Publishing from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, where he consulted on various projects for the television, Internet and direct commerce divisions.
