  • RALPH LANE POLK II (1882-1949) has been selected to enter the Direct Marketing Association's Hall of Fame, the highest professional honor in direct and interactive marketing. As president of R. L. Polk & Co. from 1923 until 1949, Ralph Lane Polk II fueled the growth of automotive marketing by compiling automotive registrations and transforming them into market statistics and direct marketing tools. The induction ceremony will occur during the DMA's 85th Annual Conference & Exhibition on Oct. 22, 2002 in San Francisco, Calif.

  • GREG HAMMAREN has been tapped to run Fox Sports Net Detroit as vice president and general manager. Hammaren has spent the last dozen years in sales at Fox Sports Net South in Atlanta. He will replace interim general manager Hunter Nickell, who stays on board as senior vp of Fox Sports Net.

  • KIM WOODS has been appointed director/Western region ad sales for AMC Networks, where she will oversee the west coast office for national sales for AMC and WE: Women's Entertainment. Woods will report to Liz Koman, svp/AMC Networks.

  • CATHERINE GALE has joined Draft Worldwide as managing director, South Asia. Gale comes from Saatchi & Saatchi London, where she was an integrated communications director. She will report to president and COO, Jordan H. Rednor.

  • CARRIE KELLY has joined Ask Jeeves as the Regional Sales Manager for the Northwest. Kelly was most recently the Northwest Advertising Director at AmericanGreetings.com.

  • The Source Magazine announced several strategic changes within its ad sales department in an effort to maximize its regional sales coverage and increase its presence in key categories. CHRIS WHITE was named Director of Advertising, TOM RUDD was named Midwest Accounts Director, ANDY COHN has been appointed to National Accounts Director, ALI BONEVAL has joined as Fashion Accounts Manager, CHERRON JOHNSON has been named Music and Entertainment Director, and PARRY MOSS has been promoted from West Coast Accounts Manager to West Coast Accounts Director.

  • Ornelas & Associates, a Dallas-based Latino marketing communications agency, announced today that it has added three members to its staff: KAREN STANTON, chief financial officer; TIFFANY BLANKENSHIP, media supervisor; and MIGUEL PENA, accounting manager. Stanton has 17 years of financial experience and comes to Ornelas & Associates from Advocare International, where she also served as chief financial officer. Blankenship Comes to Ornelas by way of The Richards Group, and has worked with clients on national and local campaigns including broadcast, print and out-of-home media. Pena has held key financial roles for Perot Systems, HSO Business Solutions and Tenet Health Care Systems.

  • Twenty-one job cuts were made at Omnicom shops BBDO Atlanta and OMD. The layoffs, which president Chris Hall attributed to the ongoing "soft economy" account for approximately 9% of the Atlanta agencies' staff. Sources said the cuts were caused by budget slashes made by the agency's largest client, Cingular Wireless. BBDO Atlanta also handles the Tourism Board of Panama, Bayer Advanced and the Atlanta-based employment service, Randstad North America.

  • Meredith Corporation announced several promotions and changes in the sales and marketing organizations of Better Homes and Gardens and Ladies' Home Journal magazines. JEANNINE SHAO COLLINS, currently Vice President/Publisher, is promoted to Vice President/Group Publisher with responsibility for Ladies' Home Journal and More magazines. Current More Publisher CAROL CAMPBELL and a yet to be named publisher of Ladies' Home Journal will report to Shao. Shao joined Meredith in 1993 as New York Advertising Manager for Ladies' Home Journal. She was promoted to Advertising Director at Better Homes and Gardens in 1995 and has served in her current role since 1999. DANIEL LAGANI, currently Vice President/Publisher of Ladies' Home Journal, is promoted to Vice President/Publisher of Better Homes and Gardens. Lagani rejoined Meredith in 2001 after serving as Publisher for George magazine. GERALDINE RIZZO, currently Associate Publisher/Brand Development of Ladies' Home Journal, is promoted to Associate Publisher of Better Homes and Gardens. Rizzo joined Meredith in 2001 from George, where she was Associate Publisher. Prior to that, she spent four years as a marketing executive at Condé Nast. ALAIN BEGUN is rejoining Meredith as Associate Publisher/Marketing of Ladies' Home Journal. He was formerly Marketing Director of Better Homes and Gardens from 1998 to 2000. Most recently, Begun was Marketing Director at People.
