  • McDonald's Corp. named Branding Consultant LARRY LIGHT its Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer. Light, the founding President and CEO of Arcature, a brand consulting firm, will report to McDonald's CEO Jack Greenberg. Prior to working at Arcature, Light was Chairman and CEO of the international division of Bates Advertising, where he served on the worldwide board. Light began his career at BBDO Worldwide where he worked his way up to EVP for Marketing and Media Services.

  • Internet Web site operator Yahoo Inc. has cut about a dozen sales positions. Out of 3,500 Yahoo employees worldwide, fewer than 15 employees from the sales group were cut.

  • Ziff Davis Media Inc. announced it has launched a new Enterprise Group. The new group, to be spearheaded by STEPHEN D. MOYLAN, Executive Vice President, will enable advertisers to reach their most valued customers. Moylan, who joined the company in October 2001, will continue to oversee corporate sales and marketing, research.

  • Jon Miller, the new CEO of AOL, is expected to disclose his plans for the reorganization of the troubled interactive unit. The overhaul is expected to disperse employees in AOL's business affairs unit throughout the company, leaving only a handful of personnel at its Dulles, Va., headquarters. The unit, comprised of more than 80 people, has been under scrutiny since The Washington Post reported last month of controversial ad and e-commerce deals. The unit traditionally played a role in various parts of big cross-media advertising deals.

  • Coca-Cola Co. has hired agency veteran ESTHER LEE as Chief Creative Officer for North America, overseeing media, creative and agencies for all brands of the world's largest soft-drink company. Lee was Executive Vice President, Director of Agency Development and Director of Client Services at Deutsch before it was acquired by Interpublic, and she was a Senior Vice President at WPP's J. Walter Thompson Co. in the early 1990s.

  • Struggling British advertising company Cordiant Communications Group PLC has unveiled a change of CEO. Chief Executive Michael Bungey will retire at the end of March and, as expected, be succeeded by DAVID HEARN, the New York-based CEO and chairman of Cordiant's main advertising arm, Bates Worldwide.

  • Grey Global Group's Grey Worldwide, San Francisco, has begun laying off employees as a result of difficulties with its advertising account for Cisco Systems. About half of Grey's employees were designated to work on the Cisco account. A handful were laid off in recent days, and other waves of layoffs are anticipated, according to a number of employees.

  • WILLIAM GORSKI has joined DraftWorldwide as Senior Executive Vice President, Director of Direct Marketing. He will lead all of the agency's direct marketing accounts, including General Motors, Sprint, DeVry University, Monster.com, H&R Block, and healthcare accounts including Aventis. Gorski joins DraftWorldwide from e-Dialog, Boston, where he was Executive Vice President. Prior to e-Dialog, Gorski was Vice President-Director, Integrated Marketing at Digitas, Boston, where he was the Relationship Manager for the Xerox account.

  • Arc Communications, Inc., a full service communications firm serving the healthcare and high-tech industries, announced that Mr. PETER A. BORDES JR. joined the Board of Directors. Bordes is an owner of Greater Media, Inc., a privately owned media conglomerate with leading radio and publishing properties in Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit and New Jersey. Bordes is also Chairman of Empire Media, a diversified media group with a focus on publishing, broadcasting and interactive media.

  • Showintel Networks, Inc. has hired In-Theater-Advertising Executive ANTHONY GUGLIELMO of Hampton, New Hampshire, as Director of Marketing. In his new position, Guglielmo will be responsible for expanding Showintel's presence in theater lobbies around the nation and for brand building. Most recently Guglielmo served as National Account Executive for National Cinema Network, responsible for selling accounts that had previously resisted theater advertising. From 1998 to 2000, Guglielmo was Northeast Regional Manager for Val Morgan Cinema Advertising.

  • BROOKE E. TWEDDELL was recently named Vice President/Group Director for Rutland MKB, a full service advertising, media and marketing communications company. She will oversee daily operations in the Memphis, TN office, including launching the company's national/regional Media Services Division. Tweddell comes to Rutland MKB following a 3 year post at Archer Malmo where she served as Vice President of the company's Retail/Restaurant Services Group.

  • Captivate Network, Inc., the national news and entertainment network, announced that MICHAEL GANNON is joining the company as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Gannon joined Captivate from Wink Communications, where he served as Vice President, Sales. His 25 years of experience includes 14 years at ESPN, where he helped grow the network to over $500 million in sales. He also held Senior Sales positions at Pax TV and Speedvision, and started his career at ABC, CBS and NBC.

  • LAURA MANOS EMMS have been hired as Senior Account Director at CFM Direct, a national direct marketing agency. Most recently Manos Emms served as Vice President of Sales at Helegeson Enterprises and as a member of the Midwest Direct Marketing Association.

  • Interpublic Group of Cos.' Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, named JOE KAYSER to the new position of Senior Vice President and Creative Director of its San Francisco office. Previously, Kayser was at Publicis Groupe's Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, where he worked on the Sprint PCS account. In his new post, he will work on the shop's upcoming ad campaign for Red Roof Inns.

  • 24/7 Real Media, Inc., a leader in interactive marketing, announced the return JOHN BARBERA as Senior Vice President-Chief Revenue Officer, responsible for sales of all media products for the company in the US. Most recently, Barbera served as President of Sales and Sales Marketing for iVillage Inc., one of the largest women’s networks on the Internet.

  • KEVYN LEWIS has been named GlobalHue’s President and Chief Creative Officer. As Chief Creative Officer, Lewis is responsible for the development of all creative concepts, advertising and materials that are directed to the African-American, Hispanic, and the Asian-American and urban markets. Lewis came to GlobalHue, then Don Coleman and Associates, in 1990 after working with African-American advertising agencies in Chicago for more than a decade.
