  • National Cable Communications has announced the promotions of DEREK SMITH to Sales Manager in the Atlanta office and FRANK PRINCIPE to Manager, Research & Marketing, while SIMON DEUTSCH returns to NCC as a National Interconnect Manager with NCC's CableLink Interconnects division. A 10-year NCC veteran, Smith moves to NCC's Atlanta office from NCC's CableLink Interconnects division in Bloomfield, N.J., where he was a National Interconnect Manager. Smith joined NCC in February of 1993 as a Sales Assistant in NCC's Philadelphia office, and was promoted to Sales Coordinator after six months, a position he held for 1 1/2 years before being promoted to an Account Executive in the Philadelphia office. He then moved to NCC New York in December of 1997, where he continued as an Account Executive for three years before moving to CableLink Interconnects. Principe joined NCC in March of 1998 as a Research Analyst. He was promoted to Senior Research Analyst in March of 2000. Deutsch joined NCC in November of 1997 as a Traffic Coordinator. He was promoted to Sales Coordinator in 1998, then to Sales Planner in 1999, and finally to Account Executive in 2000.

  • DoubleClick Inc. this week announced the addition of new senior level hires. ERIC KIRBY will serve as Vice President and General Manager of DoubleClick's Strategic Services Group, and JOHN REHL has been hired as DoubleClick’s new Vice President of Global Technical Services. Prior to joining DoubleClick, Kirby co-founded and served as CEO of Veripost, where he guided the company's business development, marketing, service implementation and financing activities before its merger with Return Path in October 2001. Rehl was most recently the Senior Vice President of Customer Support at Software AG where he led a worldwide team of 100 support professionals.

  • Premier Retail Networks, one of the world's largest retail media networks, has hired PETER CULLEN as General Manager, Consumer Electronics Networks. Cullen joins PRN from ACTV, Inc., an interactive television pioneer, where he served as Executive Vice President of Enhanced Media Services. Prior to ACTV, Cullen was employed by America Online, Inc. as Vice President of Business Development for the Interactive Marketing division.

  • NBG Radio Network announced that it has added two new board members to its board of directors: PETER A. BORDES, Founder and Co-CEO of Empire Media, Inc. and STANLEY WUNDERLICH, President of Consulting For Strategic Growth, Ltd. and Managing Director of KCSA Public Relations Worldwide. They replace board members Peter Jacobson and Dick Versace.

  • JONATHAN WALD, the Executive Producer of NBC's top-rated morning show "Today," has been fired and may soon be replaced by a former executive of rival ABC. NBC may be close to signing a deal with Tom Touchet, a former Producer at "Good Morning America," to replace Wald. Wald replaced Jeff Zucker, who left the show in January 2001 to become President of NBC Entertainment, and later assumed control of the network's West Coast operations in addition to his entertainment job. Before "Today," Wald was Executive Producer of the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. He joined the network in 1993 from a Boston TV station and worked his way through the production ranks on "Nightly News."

  • Rite Aid Corporation announced that JOHN LEARISH has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Marketing from Vice President, Marketing. Prior to joining Rite Aid in 1994, Learish held marketing positions at Giant Eagle foodstores and Phar-Mor drugstores. JIM PILSNER has been promoted from Director, Advertising to Vice President, Advertising. Prior to joining Rite Aid in 1992, Pilsner served as Senior Director of Advertising for the Woolworth Company.

  • Interactive marketing agency Sharpe Partners has hired BILL HEWSON as Director of Client Strategy. Hewson has been involved in marketing and marketing communications for 15 years, with experience in traditional advertising, client-side marketing communications, direct marketing and for the last 6 years, interactive marketing at Modem Media.

  • 7-Eleven named RUSS KLEIN Managing Director of Marketing. Klein most recently worked with private investment and professional services firm Whisper Capital Investments, Chicago. A veteran of Bcom3 Group's Leo Burnett Co., Klein was also Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Interpublic Group of Cos.' Foote, Cone & Belding Worldwide

  • MAGGIE SHEA, Account Services Director at Fallon’s Minneapolis office, recently left the company to start her own consultancy. Shea was in the post for a year, succeeding Rich Stoddart, who took a top marketing post with Ford Motor Co. At her as-yet-unnamed consultancy, she and former Fallon group Account Director Beth Perro-Jarvis will help agencies with new-business pitches. General Manager Mike Buchner will assume Shea's duties during the search for a new Account Services Director.

  • JOE ABRUZZESE is leaving his post as CBS Sales President to become President of Sales and Marketing at Discovery Networks. Abruzzese, who has been with CBS for 20 years, has spent the last 10 as Sales President. His contract with CBS ends this month, and he was aggressively pursued by Discovery.

  • Meanwhile, CBS has promoted three in its research department. Manager of Broadcast Television Research MARIANNE O'LEARY was promoted to Director of Media Research. Local Market Analysis Supervisor KATHY MCCLUNG was named Manager of Audience Analysis. And JOHN BUTLER, Supervisor of Custom Analysis, becomes Manager of Custom Analysis.

  • G2 Worldwide Inc., partner company of Grey Global Group, announced the appointment of JENNIFER YOUNG as Partner, Strategic Brand Development Group, G2, New York. Prior to G2, Young worked as Director of the Brand Strategy Group at Donovan & Green/marchFIRST and was previously at Desgrippes Gobé, another leading brand development and design consultancy.

  • Bob Schmetterer, Chairman and CEO of Euro RSCG Worldwide, recently announced a new management team for Euro RSCG France. As part of this evolution, FRANÇOIS TIGER, after having served as President of Euro RSCG France for three years, has been named Senior Vice President of Euro RSCG Worldwide. He will report directly to Schmetterer and will be responsible for a variety of high-level strategic initiatives. STÉPHANE FOUKS has been named CEO of Euro RSCG France. He will remain President of Euro RSCG C&O, and will continue to work closely with his current clients. Additionally, MERCEDES ERRA, a founder of BETC Euro RSCG and Co-President of the agency, has been named Chairman of Euro RSCG France. This new organization is the result of a strategy launched first in the U.S. that is now being implemented worldwide.

  • Avenue A, Inc., a digital marketing services and technology company, announced that it has launched a new corporate advisory board. The advisory board will include GRAHAM PHILLIPS, former CEO of Ogilvy & Mather, and ERVIN SHAMES, former CEO of General Foods USA. Phillips spent 28 years with Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, rising to Chairman and Chief Executive in 1989. He eventually became chairman and CEO of Young & Rubicam Advertising, a position he held until WPP acquired Y&R Inc. in the fall of 2000. Shames' 25-year career in the food industry includes positions as President and CEO of General Foods USA and President of Kraft USA. After his career with General Foods, Shames held President and CEO positions with the Kendall Corporation from 1989 to 1990, the Stride Rite Corporation from 1990 to 1993, and Borden, Inc. from 1993 to 1995. He has also served on the Stride Rite and Borden board of directors, as well as the board of the First Brands, Select Comfort and Online Resources Communication corporations.

  • SUSAN GIANINNO, President and Chief Branding Officer of D'Arcy Worldwide, has been named Chairman and CEO of Publicis in the U.S. D'Arcy's other two top executives -- President and Worldwide CEO JOHN FARRELL and President, Chief Creative Officer Worldwide LEE GARFINKEL, have been offered senior positions within Publicis Worldwide. Publicis Groupe SA president and COO ROGER HAUPT will manage media duties with a staff of leaders that includes Jack Klues, chairman and CEO of Starcom MediaVest and John Perriss, CEO of Zenith Optimedia Group.

  • TIME magazine announced two new changes within its European sales team. CHARLOTTE DE MONBRISON, Senior Advertising Sales Executive, will take on full responsibility for driving advertising sales for France and Italy in the luxury goods sector. In addition, de Monbrison has been appointed Sales Director for the U.S. edition of InStyle, for France. De Monbrison will build on the success of the TIME Fashion Issue and will be responsible for driving advertising sales in the fashion category for two of Time Inc.’s leading brands. TIME has also appointed PAOLO CESANA and Media Sales Organization, Cesanamedia, to represent TIME in Italy. Cesana will report to Charlotte de Monbrison.

  • OgilvyOne announced new roles for two of its most senior and long-standing executives. After six years as Chairman of OgilvyOne worldwide UK, during which time the office became the second largest within OgilvyOne, NIGEL HOWLETT takes on a new role as Executive Vice President of OgilvyOne's Global Consulting Practice. Previously Executive Vice President, International Development Director for the worldwide network, PAUL O'DONNELL becomes Chairman of OgilvyOne worldwide London. This appointment builds on Paul's extensive management experience, having previously run OgilvyOne's operations throughout the Asia/Pacific and Latin American regions.

  • Ad Source, a full service agency in Tampa, Florida, has increased their staff. ANA TORO, is a new Vice President/Partner, KELLY PYPER joins as Media Director, and BARBARA MANNA will be a new Media Buyer. They all left DynaMedia of America, also in Tampa to join the Ad Source staff.

  • JOE NAPOLITANO has been named Vice President, Director of Sales with Eagle Television Sales in New York. Napolitano began his career with Katz as a Sales Assistant for Katz American Television in 1991. He was promoted to Research Analyst in 1993, Sales Trainee in 1994. and Account Executive in 1995. In 1999, when Eagle Television Sales was formed he was promoted to Group Sales Manager. In May of this year he was named Vice President, Group Sales Manager, his most recent position. Also, MJ MOCK has been named Group Sales Manager of the New York Atlas team with Eagle Television Sales. Mock began her career with Katz as a National Sales Assistant with the former Katz American Television division in 1995. In 1997 she entered the sales training program as a Sales Trainee and was promoted to Account Executive in July of that same year. In 1999, when Eagle Television Sales was formed, she was promoted to Account Manager, her most recent position.

  • Earlier this week, the integrated marketing firm t3 opened a New York office with four employees to handle its interactive creative and media business. On the account side, AMY FERRANTI and MARINA PALMA have joined as an Account Supervisor and Account Executive, respectively. Ferranti, who previously served as a Senior Account Executive at BBDO in Chicago, will work on the United Supermarkets, INC Research and Baker Botts accounts. Palma comes from DraftWorldwide, where she has worked on the account side over the past five years in both New York and Chicago.

  • PATRICIA CLARK has left the NY office of Valueclick, Inc. where she was Director of Strategic Sales to join the NY office of AltaVista, the search company, as EVP of Sales. Patricia had also formerly been Director of East Coast Sales at TalkCity.

  • JAMES SPEROS, Chief Marketing Officer, Ernst & Young LLP, was elected Chairman of the board of the Association of National Advertisers at its Annual Conference held at The Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida. JAMES R. STENGEL, Global Marketing Officer, The Procter & Gamble Co., was elected Vice Chairman.

  • Winstar Interactive Media, a division of Interep Interactive Inc. the largest independent Internet sales representation company in the world, named MATT MCGUIRE Vice President of Sales, West Coast. He replaces Tim Moynihan who went on to Google. McGuire has been with Winstar Interactive Media since June of 2000 as an Account Manager working in the Dallas area office. He will remain in Dallas to run Winstar’s West Coast sales operation.
