  • BBDO Worldwide announced that ANDREW ROBERTSON, currently President and CEO of BBDO North America, has been promoted to the new position of President, BBDO Worldwide. Robertson will retain his current responsibilities in North America and continue to report to Allen Rosenshine, Chairman and CEO of BBDO Worldwide,with whom he will share worldwide management duties, beginning with overseeing the activities of the BBDO Latin America region.

  • BBDO Worldwide also announced that KLAUS WENDLER, Chief Financial Officer of BBDO Europe, has been elected one of the 17 members of the Board of Directors of BBDO Worldwide.

  • LORRAINE ARADO has joined Deutsch Inc. as Executive Vice President, Group Account Director, responsible for the Revlon and Almay accounts. Most recently, Arado was the Managing Director and Partner of Working Class, a small creative shop whose clients have included Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Nina Footwear and New York Life Mainstay Funds.

  • After 17 years with DDB Needham/OMD, media buyer DAN RANK, the current Managing Partner of OMD North America, is jumping to Universal Television Group as Executive VP of National Sales. At OMD, Rank oversaw 300 employees in nine offices and handled the media buying for 130 local and national clients.

  • PAGE THOMPSON, OMD USA's Chief Strategy Officer, was named CEO of OMD North America. He will be replaced by MONICA KARO, Managing Director of OMD West, who will remain in that position. Thompson will oversee all OMD operations in the U.S. and Canada and will also join the Worldwide Board of OMD.

  • Magazine Publishers of America has named President & CEO of The Taunton Press, JOHN LIVELY, as the new Chair of the Smaller Magazine Advisory Council. Lively began his career at Taunton in 1980 as an Assistant Editor, but quickly rose to Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of the company.

  • The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has elected new members to its Board of Directors. For continuity, one third of the Board of Directors is elected each year, with Officers holding three-year terms.   • PETER KLINGE, the former New Business Development Director at Euro RSCG Interaction, has been named Chief Marketing Officer, Global Business Development Director at Euro RSCG Circle. Previously, Klinge worked at a number of New York shops, including Grey Advertising, Lintas, BBDO, and Ammirati Puris Lintas on such accounts as Warner Brothers Pictures, IBM, Pepsi-Cola and Compaq.

  • Former CBS President of network sales Joe Abruzzese, who recently became President of Ad Sales at Discovery Networks, has lured CBS' top sports sales executive to Discovery. SCOTT MCGRAW joins as Executive Vice President of Ad Sales for Discovery Networks, U.S. McGraw was Executive Vice President, Network Sports Sales and Marketing at CBS since November 2001. He had been considered a leading contender to replace Abruzzese at CBS, but the job went to Joann Ross, formerly executive vice president of sales.

  • ANDREW FREEDMAN and MARK HOWARD have joined Forbes.com as Account Managers. Freedman will be based in New York, with responsibility for accounts in New York, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Georgia and Florida. He joins Forbes.com from Advertising.com, where he was an Account Executive. Howard will be based in San Francisco, with accounts in the Bay Area and the Mountain states. He was most recently Western Sales and Development Manager at the G+J Business Innovator Group.

  • Clear Channel Communications, Inc., announced that ANDREW W. LEVIN will join the company as Senior Vice President, Government Relations. Levin, an attorney and CPA, comes to Clear Channel after spending the previous seven years as Minority Counsel to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where he was Chief Telecommunications Advisor to Ranking Member John D. Dingell and counsel to Democratic members of the Committee on all communications policy and technology matters.

  • Critical Mass, a global interactive agency, announced that THELTON MCMILLIAN has joined the company’s Calgary office as Chief Operating Officer. McMillian previously held the positions of Managing Director/Global Internet Business Solutions Leader at KPMG Consulting Inc., VP and Managing Director of Organic, San Francisco and Managing Director of Modem Media in Connecticut.

  • DAVID PEELER, the President and Chief Executive at Competitive Media Reporting in New York, a division of Taylor Nelson Sofres that tracks ad spending in major media, has left the company. Peeler joined CMR as a Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Agency/Advertiser Group in 1995 and became President and Chief Executive in 2000. The company said yesterday that Peeler was succeeded, effective immediately, by STEVEN J. FREDERICKS, who had been President and Chief Executive at JassNet, formerly Yack Inc., an Internet program guide in New York.

  • NIKKI HOBIN joins Leo Burnett/Sydney as Head of the Promotional Marketing Division. Hobin comes to the agency from The Marketing Store where she was a client services director.

  • Interpublic Group of Cos. named FRANK J. BORELLI Presiding Director, a new board post responsible for liaising between the board and management. Borelli, who retired in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer of Financial Services firm Marsh & McLennan Cos., has been an Interpublic board member since 1995 and chairs the audit committee.

  • Wolff Olins, one of the world’s leading brand consultancies and a part of the Omnicom Group, announced the appointment of DEAN CRUTCHFIELD as its US Director of Marketing. Prior to joining Wolff Olins, Crutchfield held various senior marketing and business development posts at Michael Peters, Luxon Carra and Landor Associates. He has worked on a wide spectrum of corporate, retail and consumer brands in the Middle East, Europe, the United States and Asia, including BP, Shell, Nomura, McKinsey, Kraft Jacob Suchard, Warburg Pincus and Smirnoff.

  • AOL Time Warner said Tuesday that JAMES DE CASTRO, President of AOL Interactive Services, is leaving the company after seven months "to seek new opportunities." During his tenure at AOL, de Castro established a new programming strategy built around firsts and exclusives, community and appointment viewing. He also helped launch AOL 8.0.

  • National Cable Communications (NCC), the nation's leading spot cable rep firm, has named GREG SCHAEFER as Chief Operating Officer. Schaefer comes to NCC from CBS in New York, where he spent 20 years in a variety of capacities. He most recently served as Vice President, Station Manager of WCBS in New York. With CBS, he also served as Director of Sales for WCBS, and Executive Vice President of CBS Television Station Sales. Previously he was President, Viacom Station Sales.

  • Rodale Inc., a leading publisher of information on healthy, active lifestyles, announced this week that PATRICIA WILLSTATTER has been named Midwest Sales Manager for Organic Style and OG (formerly Organic Gardening). Prior to joining Rodale, Willstatter was the Midwest Sales Manager for Rosie magazine in charge of successfully launching the magazine and transitioning key McCall’s advertisers to Rosie. She joined Gruner + Jahr’s McCall’s in 1995 as an Account Executive.

  • Captivate Network, Inc., the national news and entertainment network, announced that SUSAN AUERBACH recently joined the company's advertising sales team as National Account Manager. Susan brings to Captivate a wealth of sales experience from well-known companies such as E! Network Television, General Motors Mediaworks/Lintas, and NBC. Most recently, Susan served as a media-buying consultant for Unity Media Inc. in New York.

  • Initiative Media announced that JENNIFER M. RAZOR has joined the company as Vice President, Director, Business Development. Most recently, Razor was an independent consultant for a number of leading corporations, including Grey Global Group, Fountainhead NYC and Barnes & Noble Booksellers in New York.

  • MICHAEL CARR, Playboy Enterprises Executive VP, Publishing Group President, will leave the company after two years in the post to "pursue personal entrepreneurial projects in his hometown of Las Vegas."

  • MARK JOHNSON has joined the JUXT Interactive team in a production management role. Versed in numerous technologies as well as leading strategic initiatives, Mark was formerly the Digital Media Director at FCB in Irvine, CA, where his clients included Taco Bell, Hilton Hotels, and Kawasaki. He also has extensive healthcare experience, from his days as Technical Director at FCB Healthcare West.

  • MTS Inc., the parent company of national music, book and video retailer Tower Records is cutting 15 percent of its headquarters employees in West Sacramento. In all, 82 positions will be eliminated at headquarters and at the distribution subsidiary next door, the company said. MTS Inc., said the job cuts would hit a variety of divisions, from accounts payable to direct sales, and would include the closure of the Tower chain's Pulse! magazine, which will suspend publication.

  • Omnicom media network OMD USA has named PAGE THOMPSON CEO of OMD North America, a new position. He had been Chief Strategy Officer of OMD USA. Succeeding Thompson as OMD USA's top strategy executive is MONICA KARO, Managing Director of OMD West. Karo will retain her regional responsibilities, adding the Chief Strategy Officer title.
