  • In a move that ends recent speculation that it might be closed, the Chicago office of J. Walter Thompson this week named BARRY KRAUSE its new President. Krause has been Chairman-CEO of Publicis, New York, since Oct. 1, when Publicis Groupe merged its Chicago operations into its New York office as part of a massive reorganization of the holding company's assets after buying out Bcom3 Group. The JWT post had been vacant since September, when Brian Heffernan resigned under pressure as the agency was reportedly struggling on the Kraft Foods and SABMiller Brewing accounts.

  • The Advertising Creative Director who developed the tagline "Do You Yahoo?" and accompanying yodel for the Internet company is starting his own San Francisco ad agency, Lushadelic. BOB KERSTETTER, formerly Co-Founder and Creative Director of Black Rocket Euro RSCG, left the Havas-owned agency almost a year ago and has been writing screenplays and directing commercials, including some for Yahoo! at his old agency. His partner at Lushadelic is Stelio Kitrilakis Founder and Executive Producer of San Francisco commercial production company Complete Pandemonium. Kerstetter will have the title Writer/Director.

  • Tribune Broadcasting, a division of Tribune Company announced that Washington D.C. Bureau Chief CISSY BAKER has been appointed Vice President/News Operations and that Marketing Executive RICK FELTY has been named Vice President/Creative Services. Felty has more than 10 years of experience with Tribune and has been instrumental in helping shape promotion of the on-air product at each of the 24 television stations. Previously, she was Director/Creative Services for WGN-TV, Chicago, from 1997 to 2000. Baker joined Tribune Broadcasting as Washington Bureau Chief in 1994. She was named Director/Creative Services for Tribune Broadcasting in July 2000.

  • Tribune Publishing just announced that LOUIS SITO, President, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Hoy, one of the nation’s largest Spanish-language daily newspapers, has been named to the newly created position of Vice President/Hispanic Media. In his new role, Sito will be responsible for the strategic direction of Tribune Publishing’s initiatives in Hispanic media and for coordinating group activities that include Tribune’s four Spanish-language newspapers.

  • The organizers of the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival announced that MARCO TINELLI, President and CEO of FullSIX, will be the Jury President of the 2003 Cyber Lions jury. After a few years in Arthur Andersen’s merger & acquisition department, he joined the Publicis Group to launch its interactive services division (Publicis Technology) in 1994, bringing it in 1997 to a leading position in the French market. Tinelli then joined the Grey Group in late 1997 to launch Grey Interactive in France and in Europe. In 2001, he led the name change from Grey Interactive to FullSIX and the merger with Inferentia-DNM to create a pan-European interactive leader, listed on the Italian nuovo mercato.

  • New hires at Einson Freeman: CORY KALLET is the new Senior Partner, New Business. Prior to Einson Freeman, he was Executive Vice President, Account Director at DVC Worldwide. GEORGE CASABONA also joins Einson as COO. Prior to joining the agency, he was CEO at DVCi Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DVC Group specialized in online marketing. Also, MARY BETH BIRD joins as Account Supervisor. She joins Einson Freeman from The Zipatoni Company, where she was Account Supervisor in the agency’s Chicago office.

  • AOL Time Warner reports that TED TURNER, the company's Vice Chairman is stepping down to spend more time on his philanthropic endeavors. Moreover, the media conglomerate reported a whopping $45 billion loss in its fourth quarter.

  • Yahoo! this week announced two new additions to its sales leadership team: BETH-ANN EASON joins Yahoo! as Vice President of Category Management and Sales Training. Eason has held a variety of management positions, including VP/General Manager of DoubleClick Media, SVP Business Development at Ziff Davis Publishing and Associate Publisher of the SRDS Interactive Source Book. BETH LAWRENCE, a 20-year sales veteran, joins Yahoo! as Vice President of Eastern Sales. Lawrence joins Yahoo! from America Online, where she served as Vice President of Integrated Sales and Marketing. Previously she had been Vice President Publishing at DoubleClick, where she managed both sales and business development for the Business, Technology, Automotive, Health, Women's, Travel and Entertainment networks.

  • Emmis Communications Corporation this week named radio industry veteran MATT ROSS as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Emmis-New York. Since early 2002, Ross has served as CEO of Turning-Point Inc., which specializes in media, marketing and event consulting services. Prior to that, he was General Manager of WAXQ-FM in New York City from 1998-2001. He added the additional role of Senior Vice President of Sales for Clear Channel New York in 2001.

  • LINDA MCCUTCHEON, a senior publications executive with more than twenty years of experience in media marketing management, research, and digital media, has been named Director, Publications at AARP. McCutcheon spent ten years with Time, Inc., first as Marketing Director for Money and then Time magazines. She also served as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Time, Inc. New Media. In 1998, she was named one of the 25 Most Influential Women on the Internet.

  • ANDREW M. NIBLEY has been named Chairman of Marsteller, the advertising, interactive, event management and television production unit of Burson-Marsteller. Based in New York, Nibley will oversee Marsteller's U.S. operations in New York, Washington, Chicago and Pittsburgh, and coordinate with Marsteller operations in London, Frankfurt and Hong Kong. Previously, Nibley led Vivendi Universal's Internet music portals on a global basis, serving as President and CEO of Rollingstone.com and GetMusic.com. Before that, Nibley co-founded Reuters NewMedia, which became the No. 1 provider of news on the Web and one of the first profitable Internet companies.

  • Quintacom Inc., a company that will create new and alternative communications through a mix of creative entertainment, media and marketing, was recently announced by its founding partners. MATT RYAN is the Founder and CEO of the former Ryan Drosman & Partners advertising agency; CAROLYN WALL is the former Publisher of Newsweek; REGGIE LUCAS is a multi-platinum selling, Grammy-winning producer, composer and songwriter; and MARK GRAHAM is former President of Graham Marketing & Communications Group, Inc. Ryan said Quintacom will produce integrated entertainment as brand and marketing solutions, and specialize in bringing to market recorded music.

  • MICHAEL GENTRY has joined Roska Direct as National Account Director. He is responsible for new business development in the healthcare and consumer industries for the $50 million direct marketing agency. Prior to Roska Direct, Gentry was Senior Account Manager at IMS Health, Inc., and previously he held several sales and brand management positions with Johnson & Johnson of New Brunswick, N.J.

  • Tacoda Systems Inc., an enterprise software company, announced that YORAM EZRA will join the company this month in the newly created position of Deployment Manager. Ezra comes to Tacoda from Oven Digital, New York, where from 2000 to 2002 he was Managing Director, Director of Project Management and Account Manager, handling Tiffany’s among others. Prior to this, Ezra worked as a project manager for March First, New York, where he handled the Audi North America account. From 1996 to 1999, he led the multimedia development team at Times Mirror Magazines.

  • Premiere Radio Networks this week announced that TOM DRENNON, formerly Senior Creative Director, has been promoted to Vice President, Creative Director of Marketing and Advertising. In his new position, Drennon is responsible for maintaining Premiere Radio's corporate identity. He will continue to oversee the creative design for the marketing department that serves as an in-house agency. Also, OMAR THOMPSON, formerly Director of Marketing, has been promoted to Vice President, Marketing and Advertising. Thompson will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategy, industry events, and advertising campaigns for the company.

  • MICHAEL GALKIN has joined CandidateSeeker.com as the Director of Sales and Marketing. Galkin’s prior company was ranked in the top 150 of the Inc. 500, and he was a finalist in the 2002 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. His experience in marketing and new media is expected to broaden the companies marketing efforts.

  • ANN LYDECKER was named Director of Business Development at Semaphore Partners in New York. Semaphore Partners is the interactive technology provider of Publicis SA, the world's fourth largest advertising and communications group.

  • 360 YOUTH, an ALLOY company, announced the hire of MADELYN ROBERTS as VP, Publisher of Print and Interactive. Roberts will oversee advertising sales and marketing of the company's magazine and catalog properties as well as related Web sites, with circulation's totaling over 60 million annually. Prior to joining 360 Youth, she held positions as Publisher of McCall's Magazine and Mode Magazine.

  • Arbitron announced the move of MANDY ADAMS to Radio Station Sales as the Arbitron Training Specialist throughout the west coast. She will be responsible for training radio station clients on Arbitron data and software. Adams worked as a Scarborough training specialist for Arbitron for the past 2 years. Prior to Joining Arbitron, she was a local radio sales account executive with WBAP-AM in Dallas, TX.

  • ERICA S. KASEL has been named Marketing Director of Departures. Prior to joining Departures, Kasel was the President of Kasel Luxury Marketing Group Ltd., a marketing company that focused on luxury hospitality and travel, provided strategic marketing planning and execution services, internet strategy and implementation, and developed partnership programs.

  • KRISTINA TRUMPER-PRESERN has been named Senior Account Executive for Katz Radio in Chicago. She interned with the company twice while in college, and then permanently joined Katz after earning her Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting.

  • CHRIS VAN DUYNE has started his own Media, Marketing and Advertising Firm called The Van Duyne Group, LLC. As President of the company, Van Duyne has secured exclusive partnerships with various media, marketing and advertising companies such as Golfpac Travel and Golfweek Magazine. Prior to going out on his own, Van Duyne was an Account Executive with the Golf Digest Companies and was responsible for the sales and marketing of Golf Digest, Golf World and Golf for Women magazines. Before joining The Golf Digest Companies, Van Duyne was an Account Supervisor with J. Walter Thompson where he managed the Maxfli, Dunlop and Slazenger Golf brands.

  • ANDY REED, formerly the Eastern/Midwest Sales Manager for Golfweek Magazine and most recently Sales Manager for Golf Publishing Limited on the Majors of Golf, Great Golf Resorts of the World and PGA Magazine, has also joined The Van Duyne Group, LLC. Reed is now the National Sales Director for The Van Duyne Group where he will be working on exclusive partnerships with media, marketing and advertising companies. In his role, Reed will be responsible for implementing the sales and marketing strategies of the company’s client base.

  • Boede&partners, an integrated marketing firm, announced the promotion of JOHN KIECHLE to Associate Creative Director from Senior Art Director. In his new position Kiechle will handle creative responsibilities for the firm's work with Network Associates, a security services company that develops the McAfee AntiVirus Software and other leading security products, and will continue to contribute his unique talents to the other agency clients.

  • Regent Communications announced this week that CAL HALL is now the Vice President/Market Manager for their newly acquired Ft. Collins, Colorado stations. Hall is transferring from Regent's St. Cloud, Minnesota market where he served in the same capacity. Hall will be replaced in the St. Cloud, Minnesota market by David Engberg, previously the Director of Sales.

  • The Advertising Council announced that KATE EMANUEL has joined the organization as Vice President of Government Affairs. In this newly created position, she will expand the Ad Council’s partnerships with Congress, as well as federal government agencies and national non-profit organizations. Prior to joining the Ad Council, Emanuel worked in Congress for five and half years and most recently, as the Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard.
